The Event Log is activate by checking the appropriate box on the Program tab of the Setup window. A number of events are now logged to a separate window. Events include things such as Proximity alarms, Tracking update events, incoming messages, transmitted text via the RF port, ranging requests, APRServe connect/disconnect times, and other data. These events are color coded. Alerts in red, incoming messages in brown, etc. The font is user selectable. The Event Log is saved on program exit in the file called EventLog.RTF. The Event Log is in Rich Text Format. Files can be read by programs such as Microsoft Word or WordPad with color and font preserved. The Event log can be made the top most window making it always visible. It can also be made small without a title bar so as to take up minimal space. See the View menu. 2) The program is getting ready for future updates to APRServe by Steve Dimse, K4HG. There is now a space to enter the APRServe Logon password. Currently, this is not required, but in the future it will be, when the ability to gate RF to RF via the Internet is available. 3) Tracking: You can now zoom to the most recently heard Posit for stations in the tracking list. Check the zoom box on the Tracking page. 4) Directed Query: When you issue a directed query, APRS+SA then begins to look for a Posit from that station. When it is heard, it is processed as if it were in the tracking list. Thus, if tracking is enabled, auto update on, and zoom enabled, A map will be drawn showing the location of the Posit when ever it is heard. We are about two weeks from the official opening of the Internet to RF gateways! Most of the software is done and tested. Full details of the protocol, and how the system works, are available on the web at http://www.aprs.net/vm/inetmsg.html There will be new versions of Mac/WinAPRS and APRS+SA in the very near future to handle the new message format. ALL USERS SHOULD UPGRADE!!! People using older versions of the software will have read-only access to APRServe, and will not receive IGated messages properly. For most people using Mac/WinAPRS, the change involves nothing more than the new version of software. APRS+SA users need to contact me to get a validation number. For this, you must either be a registered user of Mac/WinAPRS/dos, or make a solemn pledge to register with Brent once he is ready to start taking registrations. Just email me (k4hg@tapr.org) with your call and which program you are registered for, and I'll email you back the number. Mac/WinAPRS generate this number automatically for registered users. Unregistered users will still be able to use APRServe as it is now, however they will not be able to initiate messages that will get IGated to VHF. APRSdos users who have recent versions should be fine, though older versions will not decode the new messages properly. I am not sure exactly what the cutoff version is however...only 811 has been tested to by me... Mac/WinAPRS/+SA users that are IGating data to the internet, will need to get another version of the software which enables IGating from internet to rf. This IGate version will not be available until the system goes live a week or so after the user software upgrades are released. I know this all sounds a little confusing, but please read the web page, and if you have any questions feel free to ask me. 73 de Steve K4HG From stanzepa@mail2.nai.net Tue Feb 24 18:33:12 1998 Received: from usa.nai.net (usa.nai.net [204.71.21.10]) by tapr.org (8.7.5/8.7.3/1.9) with ESMTP id SAA17995 for ; Tue, 24 Feb 1998 18:33:07 -0600 (CST) Received: from 208.133.162.112 (Bridgeport-Usr3-7.nai.net [208.133.162.112]) by usa.nai.net (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id TAA21361 for ; Tue, 24 Feb 1998 19:28:00 -0500 (EST) Message-Id: <199802250028.TAA21361@usa.nai.net> X-Mailer: Microsoft Internet Mail & News for Macintosh - 3.0c (405) Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 19:34:15 +0000 Subject: APRS812 posted and IL/IA maps From: Stan Horzepa To: "aprsnews@tapr.org" Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Sender: Bob Bruninga Subject: APRS812 posted and IL/IA maps Nothing earth shattering, but smoothed wrinkles in 811..... APRSDEMO is a self running program that is perfect for runnning unattended at a hamfest or on display. It cycles through all the screens and overlays a description on each one. You can even write your own scripts so that you can have it automatically show and replay your own special event... ftp it from tapr.org in the following directory: tapr/SIG/aprssig/files/dosstuff/APRSdos It needs to run in an APRS directory in which APRS800 or later has already been installed.
