The purpose of the test is to let as many schools as possible communicate their position and brief message via MIR. To date, there are about 30 schools signed up, with only seven being outside of the USA. As was demonstrated during the 11 March test, as many as 50 schools in a single footprint can probably participate and still have an excellent chance of being seen. If you can set up your TNC, and modest 2m FM radio to an omni antenna at a school, then you are welcome to participate. This requires downloading a revised EXE also. So you need to download both aprsplus1.zip and aprsplus2.zip. This fixes several problems, mostly related to the use of the Internet. I have actually gone back to the Internet code I had in versions prior to 0.9.00. This is because the tools used to build 0.9.00 appear to be just to unreliable. So here is a summary of what has changed: 1) Replaced EXE with 0901 using old Internet tools 2) Popup message stating the program is unregistered, only appears at program startup. Unregistered versions will not save any configuration information. Registered versions saves it automatically, and supports multiple configurations. Fixes: 1) Right click on Lists on Lists page of setup now works with WinNT!! (an obscure typo) PLEASE, EVERYONE USING 0.9.00, update your copy to 0.9.01 as soon as possible. .. The purpose of the experiment is to use the MIREX packet station on MIR to relay UI communication packets between schools. Stations running the MIRMON.exe program or any of the versions of APRS (in the space mode) will capture these packets and display all ground station locations on the map as well as BULLETINS and MESSAGES between stations. Since MIREX has authorized APRS packets for most passes that day between 1000 and 2300 UTC, and since we demonstrated last time that more than 30 stations per footprint can be successful, there is room for a few more experimenters. Especially overseas. BUT to keep from saturating the channel, we must be SELECTIVE. Here is the new criteria: You may transmit your UI position via MIR on 27 April if you meet the following categories. All other procedures remain the same as posted on the web page: http://web.usna.navy.mil/~bruninga/mirex.html SCHOOLS or other Youth Groups ALL non-North American stations TRAINS Boats Aircraft BackPack portable... running on battery power.. Use runner symbol. or Campground. Send Email to me so we can maintain a count. Watch for any last minute instructions on your MIRMON or APRS Bulletin page on the 27th. CAUTION: Do not send any conventional traffic to the MIR Crew via the BBS regarding this experiment. They do not have MIRMON or APRS software on board and are not familiar with the test. They are being informed via MIREX. This bug caused errors in the decoded data structure which could cause SA4/SA5 to abnormally terminate. If you have been using v0.9.00 or v0.9.01, you may have data that has been parsed incorrectly. You may need to delete any data that is causing errors with map generation. Clearing all position data should correct this after starting v0.9.02 Experimental: 1) I have included a bitmap, USA2.BMP used on the "USA" page. This bitmap covers the lower 48 states. It shows the relative position of position reports. The bitmap is scalable. Resizing the main window will cause the bitmap to re-scale. Right click on the bitmap for a popup menu. In theory other bitmaps can be used in place of my included USA bitmap. I have not provided users any way to substitute bitmaps and calibrate them. This page may be changed in future releases or removed entirely. Your comments are welcome. Look for it soon: ftp://ftp.tapr.org/tapr/SIG/aprssig/files/dosstuff/DOSmisc/mk100kv4.zip Version 4 of code for making APRS maps from the USGS 1:100,000 DLG CD contains several improvements. Special thanks go to Jack Swift, N8WAV, my #1 beta tester. Jack continues to make suggestions and even write code. However, I have decided to release Version 4 and continue to work with Jack. New stuff: - Improved joining of the short CD road segments. The staircase effect with city blocks is gone. More segments are joined into one contiguous line. Chaining process is also much faster. However, the real benefit comes with MAPFIX which can now reduce a city street to just two points if it is really straight. Sorry Boston - Improved map accuracy. Some small errors accumulated and led to 200 yd or so errors. This has been fixed. - Improved user interface especially in the explanation of the level of map detail options. Jack Swift has more ideas in this area to give the user more options. - Capture of the start or end points of lines starting or ending off the map. This eliminates the need for overlap which is now a user option defaulting to none. - Increased maximum map size for mac/winAPRS map makers. Actual size will vary but should be around 30,000 points. Remember, if you go over 18,000 points mapfix will freeze. -- Jack Cavanagh, KB4XF Falmouth, Virginia FM18gh aka: AAT3GZ/SMD AAA3VA OM of Carolyn, AC4SK/AAR3GG/AAM3VA
